RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a highly motivated and dynamic team of bioinformaticians working in genomic services data analysis. They will direct and assist in the growth and expansion of service bioinformatics in conjunction with the Bioinformatics and Genomic Services Managers, including identification of new procedures and tools, improvement of existing procedures and hiring of staff. He/She will be required to perform genomic data analysis at the highest level, whilst also supervising, delegating and reviewing the team’s performance on a regular basis. Integration of service bioinformatics with different quality structures in tandem with the Genomic Service and Quality Managers will also be a major requirement of this role. Further to the primary role in data analysis, the successful candidate will be required to interact on a daily basis with the laboratory and data analysis team leaders in our Craigavon (U.K) and Durham (U.S) sites to ensure a seamless interaction between laboratory and bioinformatics for the two sites.

REQUIREMENTS

A masters degree in bioinformatics with a good primary degree in biological or life science. A PhD in the analysis of genomic data (e.g. gene expression, SNP) would be advantageous. The candidate should have a proven track record of working in a senior bioinformatics role, with an emphasis on the practical application of data analysis techniques to biological or life science projects. Team leadership and supervisory experience is essential. The candidate must have a high level of experience working in industry, with length of service dependent on the attainment of a PhD. Experience working under a recognised quality system would be advantageous.
