Job Description
The successful candidate will be an integral scientific member of a highly motivated and dynamic team within NGI’s Nucleotide Theranomics Division. This scientist will directly assist in the growth and expansion of genomic data analysis and bioinformatics services within NGI including identification of new procedures and tools, improvement of existing human molecular genomic procedures. This person would be expected to develop integrated research on the molecular basis of complex human disease.

The successful candidate will be required to perform genomic data analysis at the highest level (e.g. SNP detection, DNA sequencing, Quantitative real time RT-PCR), while also supervising, delegating and reviewing molecular genetics duties on a regular basis. This person will design, implement and optimize workflows, prepare reports and interact with scientist from many different disciplines and divisions within NGI. Integration of molecular genetic analysis and bioinformatics will also be a major requirement of this role. The incumbent is expected to devise or adapt new technologies to keep our platform at the forefront of the field.

In addition to these duties, the successful candidate will:
• Perform or oversee the performance and troubleshooting of all DNA sequencing in the NGI genomic/bioinformatics Facility and distribute DNA sequence data to users.
• Interface and educate transdisciplinary scientists on methods of DNA sequencing and bioinformatics.
• Maintain all equipment in the DNA Sequencing and bioinformatics equipment and software systems, and be responsible for the immediate repair these systems.
• Stay updated on all new technologies in the DNA sequencing, and implement new updates to all equipment and software.
• Introduce to broad scientific teams all new instrumentation and equipment and implement the full capabilities of each instrument.
• Work directly with purchaser to maintain adequate reagent/supplies stock.
• Execute Real-Time PCR while training and assisting all users of the real-time PCR instrumentation.
• Implement training and use of all future molecular genetic and bioinformatics instrumentation and services within NGI
Requirements/Qualifications
PhD or MS with significant experience in Molecular Genetics (particularly sequencing/genomic experience, SNP detection experience) is required with demonstrable experience in bioinformatics. A PhD in the analysis of genomic data (e.g. gene expression, SNP, linkage) would be advantageous. The candidate should have a proven track record of high scientific productivity with an emphasis on the practical application of data analysis techniques to biological or life science projects. Ability to communicate and work within a transdisciplinary team is essential.

Strong leadership skills and teamwork qualities are mandatory. The candidate will interact directly with transdisciplinary research and development teams where they will provide technical and scientific guidance. The successful candidate should have extensive experience in sequencing processes and molecular biology. Strategic vision of the field and analytical thinking abilities are essential. Excellent communication and organization skills, and the ability to work within a team, are absolutely required.
