    BACKGROUND

Our client is an emerging leader in the area of automated search for genomics information. They are offering an uncommon career opportunity to be part of a small, highly energized, and productive team committed to providing ubiquitous access to genetic and related knowledge to improve human health and quality of life (think Human Genome Project meets Google-scale search technology meets Personalized Medicine meets Web 2.0!).

The company provides an enterprise software system designed for biosciences research professionals and intellectual property investigators. Their flagship product enables users to perform gene sequence searches and comparisons to quickly obtain results from the most widely-used biological and patent databases worldwide. The company has excellent financial backing, and a rapidly increasing sales – with an increase of 75% in 2006 over 2005, and an installed customer base that has more than doubled in the last year.

As a Software Engineer / Web Developer, you will extend the features and functions of a complex web application powered by a data engine that combines a relational database and a proprietary search engine. Your goal will be to modularize and extend the web platform to allow easy addition of new workflow and design concepts suggested by the company's domain experts; participate in implementing workflows; and abstract the core functions to serve external bioinformatics developers (e.g. through web APIs). Design resources will be available to provide user interface design direction, but you should be willing and able to create prototypes demonstrating the easy-to-use and interactive presentation layer.

    • -Experience with XHTML, CSS, DOM, AJAX, and Perl is desirable
    • -SQL and database design experience is desirable
    • -Experience working in a LINUX development environment and writing shell and shell scripts is desirable
    • -User Interface (UI) design experience is a plus
    Pluses

In addition to the above database web applications development experience - a background in bioinformatics and life sciences
