The Bioinformatics Scientist will work closely with the department’s bench scientists in the analysis of genomic and functional genomic information. This person will work with proprietary and open source bioinformatics software and databases to implement and customize products already used by NatureWorks as well as to identify new resources of use to the company. Finally, they will be expected to work toward integrating available biological resources.REQUIREMENTS
· Masters with a major in Molecular or Cell Biology, Microbiology, Bioinformatics, or related biological field
· 3+ years bioinformatics experience, preferably with some experience in an industrial setting
· 4+ years post graduate research experience, preferably working with bacteria, yeast or fungi.
· A minimum of 2 years experience using Perl (experience using Perl DBI and BioPerl preferred), SQL (mysql preferred), and working in a Linux/UNIX environment.
· Demonstrated ability to work well in a team comprised of scientists with varied expertisePREFERENCES
· Ph.D. with a major in Molecular or Cell Biology, Microbiology, Bioinformatics or related biologicial field
· Demonstrated skills in one or more of the following areas: gene annotation, sequence analysis, microarray analysis, comparative genomics.
· Database query, integration, and management
· Pipeline development
· Linux administration
· Demonstrated ability to move into areas of limited previous experience and master them rapidly.TERMS
