Opportunity: Bioinformatics Software Engineer position at IBDML, Marseille, France. (http://www.ibdml.univ-mrs.fr).

    BACKGROUND

A 24 month fixed term contract is open for a bioinformatician to participate to the development of MyoBase. This position is supported by the AFM (French Association against Myopathies).
MyoBase is a key objective of a research project carried out by a European Network of Excellence named MYORES (http://www.myores.org), funded by the EU under the sixth framework program.

MyoBase is a database containing information relevant to muscle biology, which includes:
    • all available information on gene structure, genome annotation, expression (expression patterns in various organisms, microarray data,…) and regulation (promoter sequences, signaling pathways) of genes involved in muscle development - in different model organisms (e.g. Drosophila, C. elegans, Ascidian, Zebrafish, Chick, Mouse and Human)
    • proteomics and protein structure of muscle components from animals and humans,
    • a repertoire of gene mutations involved in muscular diseases, both in animals and humans. (description and classification of diseases, biopsy collections,…)
The final aim of MyoBase is to provide an integrated tool that represents the main source of knowledge in myology and a tool used on a daily basis by all researchers (from fundamental researchers to clinicians) in the field.

    DESCRIPTION

The bioinformatician will be integrated in the developmental biology laboratory of Prof. Christophe Marcelle (http://www.ibdml.univ-mrs.fr/equipes/equipe_gb.php?id=23) located on a multidisciplinary University campus encompassing a number of world class research groups.
