BACKGROUND

A programmer with knowledge of Perl, Linux/Solaris and relational databases such as Oracle or Postgresql is needed to join the EPIC-Norfolk study. EPIC-Norfolk is a prospective cohort study of 30,000 men and women recruited between 1993-1997 looking at nutrition, lifestyle, genetics and chronic diseases of later life. RESPONSIBILITIES

The design of intranet based programs to capture of data from laboratory or fieldwork equipment. The management of biological sample and genetic
databases. Design of programs to help fieldwork as part of the EPIC-Norfolk Third Health Check. Record linkage to hospitals and registries.

REQUIREMENTS

A first degree in a numerate subject or a masters in bioinfomatics, statistics or computer science is required.

PREFERENCES

Knowledge of statistical software such as Stata, SAS or R and familiarity with genetic or epidemiological techniques and data management an advantage.

Limit of tenure: 1 year
