    Dear Friends,

    One Lecturer post is available to teach Computer Science to BSc Bioinformatics students at Christ College, Rajkot, Gujarat. The College is running by Kerala catholic Fathers.

    COMPENSATION:
    Rs 10,000 pm. If your performance is good second academic year onwards you will be regularized and the salary package will be as per the UGC norms.

    ELIGIBILITY:
    MSc or M.Tech – Bioinformatics with computer background
    OR
    P.G degree (MSc or MCA) in Computer Science with P.G. Diploma in Bioinformatics
    OR
    B.E or B.Tech Computer Science with P.G. Diploma in Bioinformatics

    Semester: III:

    B I: 12 ALGORITHMS IN BIOINFORMATICS

    Algorithms for basic problems such as sorting, shortest path, minimal spanning tree, enumerative search. General algorithm design principles making it possible to design algorithms for new problems.

    Analysis of algorithms and complexity theory - input data, input size, running time, memory requirements, worst-case and average-case analysis, order of growth; Similarity: basic concepts - distances, similarity scores, string distances, approximate string matching; finding optimal alignments, motifs as elements of similarity, scoring matrices, scoring systems.

    Some basic concepts and definitions: learning, model, inference, utility. Different kinds of models and inference. Generalization and bias. Rule induction. Concept learning. Version space algorithms. Inductive bias. Decision trees. Overfitting. Learning sets of rules. Neural networks. Basic principles. Hopfield nets. Feedforward nets. Backpropagation. Instance based learning. Distance metrics. Nearest neighbour. Discriminant analysis. Case based reasoning. Cluster analysis.

    Bayesian statistics. Conditional probability, Bayes theorem. Bayesian inference. Prior probability. Naive Bayesian classifier. Probabilistic expert systems. Rule based expert systems. Graphical models/Markov graphs. Inference in polytrees. Modifying the structure of general networks. General learning difficulties. Algorithms for learning probabilistic networks.

    Semester: II:

    B I: 09 INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER PROGRAMMING
    Introduction to Micro Computers. Software and hardware, Functioning of Computer systems, Operating systems and different computer environments. Introduction to computer networks – types and architecture, OS and Network management with Windows 98, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000 Professional.

    Structure and function of Servers – AppServers - Multiple OS - Distributed computing and server-client information systems. Internet organization and architecture. Working with Internet and Internet Protocols – browser, navigation, www, URL, hypertext, links, navigation, Telnet, Telnetw, e-mail, FTP local files, remote files, file reorganization, connecting to a remote computer.

    Concept of UNIX - utilities and programming tools. Commands and operation of UNIX environment. Logging in to the RCR Alpha, UNIX filenames and file protections, UNIX commands for working with directories, repeating functions loops and IF statements. Introduction to Multimedia computing – Hardware and software. Introduction to Mac OS, utilities, commands and operation.

    Semester: IV:

    B I: 18 OBJECT ORIENTED PROGRAMMING - II
    Java: Introduction to Java. Graphical user interfaces using Java/Swing (both applets and stand-alone applications). Java scripts, Java Bioinformatics Tools. BioPerl: Modules, OOP, Bioinformatics Applications, Databases: Overview, MySQL, Web interfaces using BioPerl.

    B I: 19 WEB AUTHORIZING – TOOLS AND TECHNIQUES
    Developing Web pages using HTML, XML and ASP, Images, Clickable Maps, MPEG and other movies, RasMol and Kinemages, Other Multimedia Formats: Virtual Reality, Java, Chime, Animation and Graphics. An Introduction to WWW Server Configuration, Forms and cgi-bin scripts.
