RESPONSIBILITIES

BIOSTATISTIAN POSITION
Dr. Patrick Duffy's lab is seeking applicants to work with the the malaria research program to carefully evaluate and monitor research activities, in particular applying modern statistical methods to longitudinal cohort studies and interventional trials. S/he will provide the statistical expertise needed to develop and carry out a program of interdisciplinary research in collaboration with other clinical, laboratory and epidemiologic researchers as part of a multidisciplinary team involved with the design, conduct, and analysis of cohort studies of pregnant women and children exposed to malaria, as well as early phase or epidemiologic studies of vaccine and other product safety and effectiveness in clinical trials.Essential(s) for this position: MS required, Doctorate degree preferred in biostatistics, statistics, or equivalent desired. Previous experience with epidemiologic, vaccine research and research in developing countries is desirable.Contribute to the development of methodologically rigorous monitoring of epidemiologic studies that incorporate intensive immunoparasitology laboratory measurements, and evaluation strategies for vaccines and other health research projects. Work with researchers to determine correct study design and sample size, to design survey & data collection forms, and to identify appropriate statistical analysis. Review statistical analysis plans and data (as available) and provide comments. Provide direction to programmer on statistical analysis; write new statistical programs for complex analysis, as needed. Work with researchers to review and analyze data, case report forms and adverse event data from clinical studies. Review clinical statistical reports and comment on accuracy, consistency, and statistical relevance of results. Contribute to reports and articles for publication, including summarizing statistical methods used and results of analysis. Develop proposals and fundraise for new research programs that include all necessary biostatistical services. Define and negotiate scope of biostatistical work with investigators of funded grants/projects. Develop statistical skills of others by tutoring colleagues one-on-one and/or providing small group presentations. Present study results and new statistical methods/applications within SBRI and at national/international meetings attended by scientists & other biostatisticians.
