    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Philip Morris USA, a global leader in the manufacturing and marketing of consumer products made for adults, seeks a qualified Research Scientist - Epidemiologist to join our Research Development & Engineering department in Richmond, Virginia.

    Specific Duties

    • The incumbent will select, organize and direct project teams and determine the scope of resources needed for these teams according to specific epidemiology projects.
    • The Epidemiologist will design and implement projects and collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external teams to develop and employ a wide gamut of statistical and epidemiologic methods.
    • Epidemiologist will ensure that appropriate technical expertise is utilized, both internally and externally, in epidemiology projects conducted by HSR.
    • Develop business justifications, project scopes, resource requirements, estimates, schedules.
    • Conduct and coordinate specialized scientific work requiring independent thought and judgment.
    • Complete activities which generally require coordination of multi-disciplinary and/or cross-functional technical personnel.
    • Conduct evaluations, feasibility studies, planning activities, technology assessments.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Experience/Skills
    • Bachelor's degree in Epidemiology required, PhD preferred.
    • The duties of this position require the incumbent to independently conceive and direct a cross-functional, state-of-the-art program requiring a high degree of training and expertise in multiple aspects of statistical, molecular, methodologic and analytic fields.
    • The incumbent will have 7 or more years of postgraduate experience (in academia, industry, and/or public sector).
    • The incumbent should be well versed in standard major software for the analysis and data-mining of epidemiology information (including but not limited to SAS, SPSS).
    • Additional experience with identification of genetic disease markers and gene expression methodology preferred.
