BACKGROUND
Two PhD. positions are available in the field of 3D protein structure prediction at the Bioinformatics Center (http://www.binf.ku.dk), Department of Molecular Biology, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The positions (funded by the Danish Council for Strategic Research) are part of a project that aims at simulating protein dynamics on long time scales with coarse grained models and is in close collaboration with Novozymes A/S.
The projects are built around probabilistic models of protein structure (see PLoS Comput. Biol., 2006, vol. 2, issue 9, e131), Monte Carlo simulations (see Eur. Phys. J. B, 2002, 29, 481-484) and estimation of force fields (see Phys. Rev. E, 2004, vol 70:030903).RESPONSIBILITIES
The students will be working in a group consisting of 4 PhD. students, 2 postdocs, and a group leader. The group has extensive collaborations with other academic groups as well as Novozymes A/S, which is a partner in the grant. The students are expected to also spend time at Novozymes A/S. Assoc. Prof. Jesper Ferkinghoff-Borg (Ørsted.DTU, Technical University of Denmark) will act as co-supervisor of both students. Candidates must have a masters degree in physics, mathematics, computer science, bioinformatics, or a related relevant subject. Candidates ideally have programming experience in C or C++. Knowledge of Python is a plus.TERMS
The appointment is for three years and is scheduled to start as soon as possible. Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization.LOCALE
The employment is at the Department of Molecular Biology, The University of Copenhagen, which is located in the new Copenhagen Biocenter together with the Biotech Research and Innovation Center (BRIC). The Bioinformatics Center employs around 25 scientists (including PhD. students) and focuses on non-coding RNA, eukaryotic gene regulation, protein structure prediction and comparative genomics.
