BACKGROUND

A PhD position is available in the field of microarray and polymorphisms high throughput data analysis at the Bioinformatics Department (http://bioinfo.cipf.es), Centro de Investigacion Principe Felipe (CIPF), Valencia, Spain.

The position is funded by Genoma España within the context of the Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute (http://www.inab.org) and it is related to the development of algorithms for microarray and polymorphisms data analysis and its implementation in the projects GEPAS (http://www.gepas.org; see Herrero et al., 2003, 2004, Vaquerizas et al., 2005, and Montaner et al. 2006, NAR), Babelomics (http://www.babelomics.org; see Al-Shahrour et al., 2005, 2006, NAR) and PupaSuite (http://pupasuite.bioinfo.cipf.es, see Conde et al., 2006, NAR)

RESPONSIBILITIES

The selected applicant will be working in a group consisting of 7 PhD. students, 3 postdocs, 5 staff scientists and three group leaders. The main responsibilities will include to conduct statistical analysis and consulting, mostly involving DNA polymorphisms (mainly SNPs) and microarray data, to providing statistical support to the team and to develop bioinformatic/biostatistic software. Also, teaching occasionally short courses on biostatistics and data analysis is among the responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must have a masters degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or related. Candidates must have experience in statistical analysis of large datasets in the field of biomedicine as well as knowledge of programming languages such as R or C/C++. A Good oral and written English level is required. Background in population genetics is highly desirable.

TERMS

The appointment is for three years and is scheduled to start as soon as possible. Salary, and terms of employment will be in accordance with the standards of the Spanish administration.

The Department of Bioinformatics (http://bioinfo.cipf.es) at the CIPF hosts one of the largest groups of bioinformatics in Spain with a multi-disciplinary focus on subjects such as functional genomics, comparative genomics and structural genomics.
