BACKGROUND

U.S. Genomics is seeking a highly motivated Scientists to work in a multi-disciplinary team on an advanced product development program for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). USG's proprietary technology for stretching and identification of DNA fragments without amplification offers a unique advantage for bio-threat detection with high sensitivity and specificity. U.S. Genomics has been awarded a Phase III contract by HSARPA to continue development of the Company's sophisticated biological sensor for biodefense applications. Under the $8.6 million contract, funded by DHS's Bioagent Autonomous Networked Detectors (BAND) program, U.S. Genomics will complete technology and prototype development of its system for the detection and identification of airborne pathogens using its DNA mapping technology. The contract award, follows the successful completion on of a $7.5 million Phase I and $16.2 million Phase II BAND contracts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers developing systems from concept through production. The Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing software for controlling electro-mechanical devices including motors, sensors, and digital/analog I/O. Applications will run in MS Windows and drive a mix of COTS (Commercial off the shelf boards) boards and sub-systems. Development will be performed in a collaborative environment, employing modern programming practices.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will have a BS Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, with 3+ years experience developing real-time, process control/automation applications. Development experience with C#/C++/Visual Studio in a MS Windows environment is a requirement. The candidate should have experience using COTS controllers and/or custom drivers in addition to WINFORMS applications. Good OOA/OOD skills are desired. Experience with life sciences lab instrumentation is a plus. The candidate must be a self-starter, goal oriented, and a team player with good interpersonal skills.
