BACKGROUND

COMPUTATIONAL & STATISTICAL METHODS IN CHROMATIN PLASTICITY

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join us at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory – European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) at the prestigious Wellcome Trust Genome Campus in Hinxton, Cambridgeshire. We are a leading international provider of cutting-edge research, service and training in the field of Bioinformatics.

The postdoctoral fellow will be based in the Huber Group, which undertakes the development of mathematical and statistical methods for the understanding of functional genomics data.
• Analysis methods for emerging microarray technologies for RNA transcription, genotyping and protein-DNA-binding.
• Statistical computing and reproducible research
• Computational analysis of cell-based assays, phenotyping by high-content automated microscopy and genetic interactions
• Statistical methods for graph-like data and graphical models

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project: Computational methods for the analysis and modelling of chromatin structure regulation.

The successful applicant will develop computational methodology for the analysis and interpretation of cutting edge functional genomics experiments employing high-density tiling arrays and high-throughout sequencing for chromatin modifications, DNA-protein interactions (ChIP-chip, ShIP-seq) and transcription. The position has two components: close, project-oriented interaction with experimental collaboration partners on design, analysis and interpretation of experiments, and development of new statistical and computational approaches.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate must have strong quantitative skills, interest in new technologies and biology, and experience in a high-level language such as R or Matlab for the analysis of primary experimental data. Knowledge of further languages (C/C++), statistics and mathematics and a good publication record are desirable.

Ideally we are looking for a PhD scientist from a quantitative discipline (e.g. mathematics, physics) wishing to do research in biology or a biologist with quantitative and programming skills.

The successful candidate must have good communication, interpersonal and organisational skills as well as being a team player who works with a minimum of supervision.
