DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a Research Scienist who will be responsible for managing EMBL's participation within TAMAHUD, an EU project coordinated by Siena Biotech and aimed at identifying early disease markers, novel pharmacologically tractable Targets and small molecule phenotypic modulators in Huntington’s disease. State-of-the-art data integration approaches, such as pathway analysis and text mining will be applied to characterize potential signaling networks impacted by the HD mutation, which could provide additional candidate targets for pharmacological intervention for successive validation.RESPONSIBILITIES
The EMBL group will be responsible for collecting, extending and refining the “knowledge network� around HD relevant terms (proteins, genes, chemical, pathways etc.). The goal of knowledge discovery is to find hidden information in the literature by exploring the internal structure of the knowledge network created by the textual information. The job involves a commitment in travel to attend meetings within Europe, and also involves preparing and delivering oral presentations, preparing written reports, publications, and other documentation.
REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate holds a PhD in bioinformatics, biology, or related area and has a strong background in research, computing, and project management. The post holder will have experience in database retrieval techniques, visualization techniques, data-mining approaches, and a working understanding of industry standard software (databases, workflow systems, web service architecture). In addition, familiarity with the standard productivity software (Word and Powerpoint) will be a prerequisite. The Research Scientist should have a minimum of 2 - 5 years of postdoctoral experience.
We are looking for a candidate who is a skilled communicator in written and spoken English, able to create and deliver effective presentations, and to write clear, concise reports. At times these presentations may be needed at short notice and hence it is important the candidate is able to work under pressure. In addition, (s)he will have the ability to work both independently, as well as part of a team. Experience in both research and industry environments would be an advantage. Fluency in English will be required.
CONTRACT:
A contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of the review.HOW TO APPLY
