BACKGROUND:
The Computational Systems Biology Lab, University of Georgia is seeking for applications for two postdoctoral positions in (1) simulation of protein complexes and enzymatic activities, and (2) plant bioinformatics.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Simulation of protein complexes and enzymatic activities: the project is to study the degradation of polysaccharides into glucose. The successful candidate will perform large-scale molecular dynamics simulations to study the degradation process.
2. Plant bioinformatics: The project is to study biological pathways and regulation of syntheses of (hemi)cellulose in plants. The successful candidate will carry out bioinformatic studies to identify genes involved in such synthesis processes and build detailed biochemical and regulatory pathways.
REQUIREMENTS:
For position (1), a Ph.D. in computational chemistry, biophyics or related fields, with strong background in molecular dynamics simulations, is required. Experience in molecular modeling of biological systems, quantum chemistry, and knowledge of carbohydrate chemistry will be a big plus. For position (2), a Ph.D. in biochemistry, biology, bioinformatics or related fields, with strong background in plant cell walls, is preferred. For both positions, the candidate is expected to have strong programming skills.
LOCALE:
Computational Systems Biology Lab, Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of Georgia, Athens GA 30602-7229
COMPENSATION:
Salary commensurate with experience. For information on benefits please see http://www.hr.uga.edu.
HOW TO APPLY:
Interested candidates should send an updated CV and a letter of application by email to Professor Ying Xu (via Ms. Joan Yantko) (jy[at]uga.edu).
DEADLINE:
Until filled.
