    BACKGROUND

The USDA Agricultural Research Service Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research Unit in Ames, Iowa (Iowa State University campus) invites applications for a programmer / computational biologist to work in a team that is helping to assemble, analyze and annotate the soybean genome sequence. We will analyze the full genome sequence and make comparisons to genomes of related species. The project will involve comparison of genomic sequence from soybean cultivars, design of markers for high-throughput genetic mapping, integration of genetic and large-scale sequence information, evaluation and improvement of genomic sequence assemblies, characterization of genomic sequence for features of interest (such as genes, repetitive elements, regulatory regions, and centromeres), and comparisons with other plant genomes. The project also integrates diverse genetic, physical map, sequence, and phenotype data, making it available via public databases, web interfaces, and computational tools.

    REQUIREMENTS

Ph.D. in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics/Computational Biology or closely related fields is required. Knowledge of Genetics/Genomics/Cell Biology and skill in computer programming is desirable. Also required: U.S. citizenship or exempted status:
