DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a Bioinformatics Specialist who will be responsible for aspects of systems administration as well as the management of biological software and databases. It involves Bioinformatics method development as well as their applications. Additional duties include Bioinformatics and IT support of other groups, partly within collaborative frameworks worldwide, as well as user support. Furthermore, the post holder will interact closely with the computer and network group as well as with various experimental collaborators.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal applicant will have extensive knowledge and considerable experience with systems administration (Linux/Unix, Windows and Mac platforms are all used in parallel) as well as sufficient biological background. The position also requires familiarity with software development (Perl, Python, C++), Web design and programming as well as handling of biological databases. Experience in collaborating with Biologists is desired as is the proven ability to work in a team at the interface between biology and informatics. Further, the post holder should have good communication and interpersonal skills. The working language is English but additional knowledge of German would be beneficial.

TERMS

A contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of the review.
