``Only a week after unveiling the world's fastest supercomputer, dubbed ASCI White, IBM said Wednesday that a new collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy would help produce one that is expected to be about 80 times faster.
``The new machine, called Blue Gene, has been in the works since late 1998 and will use chips that run on processors with both memory and communications circuits, called `cells.' When finished, it is expected to be capable of 1,000 trillion calculations per second – 1,000 teraflops, or 1 petaflop.''
