BACKGROUND:
Sorghum is a grain crop of major importance worldwide and in the U.S. Great Plains. In the Sorghum Translational Genomics Program at KSU (http://coding.plantpath.ksu.edu/stgp/), a diverse panel of sorghum lines will be characterized genetically and phenotypically after extensive sequencing and SNP discovery in eight diverse reference lines and the recently sequenced genome. Large amounts of data will require analysis, archiving, and publication.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assembly of megabase quantities of short sequence reads against the sorghum genome sequence. Discovery of SNPs under rigorous statistical quality checking. Other bioinformatics analyses including genotyping and association studies.
REQUIREMENTS:
Ph.D. in a relevant biological or analytical science. Experience in one or more programming languages including Perl, bioinformatics training (sequence manipulation, microarrays, genomics, DNA markers); quantitative and statistical skills, good oral and written communication skills.
PREFERENCES:
Training in genetics, especially population genetics.
TERMS:
Appointment is for one year, renewable for up to three years. Position is available August 1, 2007.
