DESCRIPTION
The McGill University Life Sciences Complex (MULSC) is recruiting full-time IT personnel to participate in the implementation of various scientific data collection platforms and overseeing their day-to-day operations. The MULSC core facilities are presently building a platform to manage, organize and track large volumes of experimental data, as well as the associated analysis results.RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide consulting expertise to the University community and high level information systems support and services that enhance and maintain the MULSC's existing central systems; and provide local area network management services for a wide variety of administrative and academic units, ensuring the security and confidentiality of data. Implement practical procedures or systems that are moderately complex, according to established goals and objectives, to support the unit's operations and to ensure that services meet or exceed established quality standards. Provide technical advice and guidance to the University community. Maintain good rapport with students and staff. Establish and foster effective working relationships by identifying and responding to their needs and providing support in the delivery of information systems support and services.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
DEC III (Computer Science Technology or related field), preferably B.Sc. Computer Science.
Three (3) years' related experience.OTHER QUALIFYING SKILLS AND/OR ABILITIES
Extensive experience in programming and scripting (C/C++, Perl, Ruby on Rails, Java). Experience with server database administration (MySQL/Oracle/MS SQL), Linux and Windows operating systems administration, data backup/archiving management and system security implementation and monitoring. Demonstrated experience in hardware & software troubleshooting. The ability to integrate into a mixed environment and communicate with scientists who do not have the same computer science expertise is critical. Ability to work on a variety of projects and meet specific deadlines. Communication, writing, documentation and planning skills. Demonstrated initiative, and strong organizational and analytical skills. Bioinformatics, cheminformatics or other life sciences related training is an asset.
