    BACKGROUND:
    We are seeking an experienced and well-trained individual with a background in genetics and bioinformatics to be he lead individual on a large existing study of genetics in families with heart disease.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Take the leading role in the following:
    1. Use information technology to optimize the analysis of 3 kinds of genetic data including candidate gene SNPs in 200 genes, STR marker data from a genome wide scan, and a recent genome wide association scan with greater than 650,000 sSNPs and copy number variation.
    2. Apply known and novel statistical genetic methods for families to assess relationships of specific cardiovascular phenotypes and these three sources of genetics information.
    3. Curate and maintain a database in a public access Enclave, and manage the Enclave
    4. Offer efficient analysis, access, and management of te database to requesting investigators, working with the Study's leaders and statisticians, and
    5. Provide regular reports and representation on national committees with which the study works.

    REQUIREMENTS

    A minimum of a masters degree in bioinformatics, and experience and extensive education in genetics. The genetic approaches are more oriented to genetic epidemiology than to molecular genetics.

    PREFERENCES

    Prefer an early level but well trained PhD trained individual with knowledge of family-based methods, skills in mathematics and statistics, and skills and a solid foundation n genetics. We would prefer a native English speaker or an individual who is very facile with English. We would also prefer an individual who has done thesis work or academic work using family-based genetics methods.
