Opportunity: ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, VIRAL GENOMICS at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT--Cambridge, MA (US)

BACKGROUND
The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard seeks an ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, VIRAL GENOMICS, Broad Institute, to lead a group focused on designing, developing, and executing large-scale viral genome sequencing and analysis projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Will set a groundbreaking research agenda to understand mechanisms of viral pathogenesis with the goal of enabling the development of vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics; oversee all viral sequencing and analysis efforts including those related to HIV, HCV, Dengue and other viruses; and direct the development and application of computational tools for genome analysis. Duties include working with the leadership of the Genome Sequencing and Analysis Program to develop the overall scientific vision for viral genomics; developing a conceptual framework for novel viral analysis; setting analytical objectives and directing software development; building and leading a group of research scientists, analysts, and software engineers and establishing collaborations with researchers and clinicians inside and outside Broad; and representing and promoting the group to the Broad and outside communities, coordinating with relevant Broad and outside collaborators involved in computational analysis, production sequencing, assembly, and annotation to plan resource allocation and implement projects.
REQUIREMENTS:
A Ph.D. in biology or related field; at least five years' relevant experience (postdoctoral experience considered); experience leading viral genome sequencing and analysis projects; significant stature in the field of viral genomics as evidenced by publication record, funding record, and participation in grant review panels; supervisory and project management experience; excellent oral and written communication skills; and ability to interact with multidisciplinary staff in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to handle a variety of tasks, effectively solve problems with numerous and complex variables, and shift priorities rapidly.
