    BACKGROUND

    ISLab, the laboratory for Intelligent Systems (dept. Mathematics / Informatics - University of Antwerp) is seeking a PhD student in the field of computational systems biology. The candidate will work within the BioFrame ( http://www.bioframe.net ) project, a consortium spanning three Belgian universities. This is a full time position for two years, renewable after positive evaluation.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The successful candidate will work on mathematic modeling of protein regulatory networks. He / she develops machine-learning based approaches to infer regulatory networks from high-throughput proteome data.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Candidates should have a masters degree in mathematics, computer sciences, physics or engineering. Experience in machine learning methods and graph theory, or in computational biology are advantages. A strong interest in biological systems is expected. In addition, candidates should have excellent programming skills (java, R, C++ or similar).

    University of Antwerp, Belgium, Campus Middelheim.

    The University of Antwerp ( http://www.ua.ac.be ) has approximately 10.000 students, which makes it the third largest university in Flanders. Over 1.000 of these students - exchange students not included - are from foreign countries. The four campuses are situated in the historic city center and in the green belt to the south of the city.
