    To support its research strategy, the BioAnalytical Science Department at the NRC is seeking a


    Bioinformatician Genome Sequence Analysis
    (2 years contract)


    This person will contribute to project and technology portfolios in the context of nutrition and health and assist in the area of microbial genome sequencing and functional annotation. Additional support will be provided in the areas of eukaryotic genome analysis and functional annotation.


    Main responsibilities and challenges

    • Quality control and genome sequence data from external partners
    • Genome sequence analysis, especially focused on regulatory element motifs, gene prediction and annotation, and comparative genomics
    • Primer design to distinguish between closely related bacterial strains
    • Direct communication to scientists
    • Create written report, oral presentations and publications


    Education and experience required

    • University degree in Biology and Bioinformatics including PhD.
    • Experience in sequence analysis (genome assembly, annotation and visualization)
    • Ability to do simple programming tasks (automation of analyses, integration of results from common bioinformatics tools): C++, Perl, shell scripting
    • Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal)
    • Good team player, sense of responsibility and autonomy at work
