BACKGROUND
A data analyst is sought to work in a breast cancer research lab at
the University of Pennsylvania, particularly with microarray data.
Excellent opportunity to combine skills and interests in computer
science and biology.RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform laboratory operations in the areas of computational biology,
microarray analysis and database management.
Design, develop, test, implement and document statistical programming
in high-level software packages.
Write and edit statistical/analytical methods sections of manuscripts
and abstracts for presentations, publications and grants.
Design and mange information exchange for laboratory members and a
network of collaborators.
Conduct appropriate statistical analyses, including interpretation,
presentation and explanation of statistical techniques used,
assumptions made, and generalization of results.REQUIREMENTS
MS in Biology or Computational Biology and 1-3 years experience.
Knowledge of statistical theory, methods, and technical capability to
coordinate and perform systems related tasks as required.
Entry level knowledge of one or more statistical languages (SAS and
R) essential.
Ability to work with limited supervision preferred.
Strong oral and written communication skills essential.
Ability to write complex software in a object oriented C family
language (Java preferred).
Familiarity with a unix family operating system; some systems
administration experience a plus.
