BACKGROUND
A postdoctoral position is available in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Group at the National Institute of Biomedical Innovation (NiBio), Osaka, Japan. The post is funded by the NEDO Industrial Technology Research Grant Program (for four years from autumn 2007), aiming to develop a method for identifying novel drug targets by predicting molecular functions and protein networks.RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful applicant will develop a pipeline for protein domain assignment, an integrated database and a method for predicting protein-protein interactions. The research group carries out structural and functional bioinformatics research into complex systems towards novel drug developments. For the current research topics, see http://www.mizuguchilar.org. The post-holder will work closely with other members in the group and also with outside collaborators, many of whom are experimental biologists.REQUIREMENTS
The successful applicant will have a PhD degree in a subject relevant to the task outlined above. Experience with programming (software development) is essential and a knowledge of bioinformatics, particularly about protein structure and function, would be desirable.TERMS, COMPENSATION
The position is full time and for one year in the first instance, renewable annually upon evaluation. Terms and conditions of appointment will apply, including salary and health insurance, in accordance with NiBio's standard procedures for appointing postdoctoral research associates.LOCALE
