    BACKGROUND

The Ensembl project at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) is one of the leaders in metazoan genome annotation. The EBI is part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and is located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus at Hinxton, near Cambridge, United Kingdom.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

The Ensembl project is seeking to recruit a talented computational biologist / bioinformatician to expand our functional annotation of the genome using new datasets created with advanced microarray and sequencing technologies including genome-wide assessments of DNA-protein interactions and other epigenetic features. Responsibilities will include working closely within the Ensembl group and with other groups at the EBI integrating various experimental and computational datasets.

    REQUIREMENTS

Ideally, candidates will have a PhD in genetics, bioinformatics, or molecular biology with experience in computational data analysis and integration. Applicants with a master degree and suitable experience will also be considered.

The successful candidate will be self motivated and capable of working both independently and within a closely interacting team of scientists in an international academic enviroment. She/he should enjoy detail-orientated work, project deadlines, and the challenges and excitement associated with working in a fast moving field. Excellent communication skills are essential.

The post holder must be comfortable working in a Linux/UNIX environment. Proficiency in Perl and relational databases (e.g. MySQL) is essential. Experience with computational analysis pipeline development is desirable.

    TERMS

Benefits include 30 days annual leave, a health care and pension scheme and support to staff with dependent children. There is a Campus bus service running between Cambridge and Saffron Walden, car-share schemes, on-site and subsidised restaurant, café and gym.
