    BACKGROUND

The Research Group Analytical Biochemistry of the University of Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy focuses on biomarkers discovery using stable isotope labelling and label-free proteomics approaches. The biomarker discovery research line is pursued in collaboration with a number of clinical and informatics research groups in the context of large national and European projects. The line divided into the following main areas: a) discovery of biomarkers for pulmonary diseases like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), b) discovery of biomarkers for cancer (cervical cancer, prostate cancer), c) neurological disorders such as autism and d) drug-induced obesity and diabetes type II.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

A data processing support platform will provide the necessary means for communication between the partners of the Netherland Proteomics Center (NPC) for the exchange of software, tools and expertise. The support platform will enable researchers to collaborate in joint research projects, making it essential that the platform includes a flexible database or data warehouse infrastructure for experimental proteomics and metabolomics data, and provides an instrument for data transport. This implicates also that the platform will provide web services, support for software development, and set standards. The support platform will be developed based on the GRID and VL-e infrastructure as established by the Netherlands Bioinformatics Centre.
To create this support platform we are looking for a scientific programmer, who will participate in the design and implementation of the support platform and making available software and tools developed within projects of the NPC.
