    BACKGROUND

The National Bioinformatics Network (NBN) was created in South Africa to develop capacity in bioinformatics in the country, especially among disadvantaged groups, and to perform world-class bioinformatics research. The NBN is made up of a network of nodes each situated at a University, for more information on the NBN see: http://www.nbn.ac.za. The UCT node of the National Bioinformatics Network was established in 2003 with the aim of becoming an internationally recognised research and training center, addressing the challenges of bioinformatics capacity development in the region. The UCT Node includes the following components: infrastructure, research, education and training, and services. The research focus is broad, but connected by ties to infectious diseases, molecular evolution and high-throughput data analysis. For more information on the Node see: http://www.cbio.uct.ac.za.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

The UCT NBN Node is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Pathogen Bioinformatics. The successful candidate will have experience in Bioinformatics, with a research interest in infectious diseases.

    REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should have a Ph.D or equivalent degree in a relevant area (Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, Biostatistics or Computational Biology) and some programming skills.

    HOW TO APPLY

To apply please send a curriculum vitae and covering letter to Dr Nicola Mulder, Tel: +27 21 4066058, nicola.mulder[at]uct.ac.za.
