    BACKGROUND

    Perlegen Sciences, Inc. is working to provide safer and more effective drugs to consumers. The company’s expertise is in understanding human genetic variation within and across diverse patient populations and in conducting studies aimed at identifying variations that are predictive of drug response. Perlegen has established a leadership role in analyzing millions of common, single nucleotide variations (SNPs) across the whole genome and is now completing the development of a similar leading capability in examining other types of DNA variation across the genome. Perlegen also applies its expertise to discovering genetic variations associated with disease that can enable the discovery of novel targets leading to new therapeutics, as well as clinically useful diagnostics and biomarkers.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    We currently seek a very talented senior software developer to design and implement our next generation Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). You will have technical design and project management responsibility for LIMS, as well as manage new system implementations and complex system upgrade projects. We'll rely on you to take responsibility for all stages of the LIMS development life cycle, including initiation, development, customization/configuration, deployment, training and integration of systems according to the user and system specifications, coordinate information flow among members of the project team, develop user requirements and system documentation, manage project budgets, schedules and other deliverables and coordinate internal and external resources.

    REQUIREMENTS

    To qualify, you should have a BS/MS in Computer Science plus experience and a BS/MS in Bioinformatics, Biology or a related field. Application development experience in Oracle and C#, .NET or Java is essential, along with experience managing medium to large LIMS implementations in a biotech or pharma laboratory environment, hands-on experience implementing complex LIMS and experience with complex data migration projects. Additional requirements include a thorough knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, laboratory automaton and processes, experience with interfacing laboratory instruments and LIMS, a working knowledge of analytical applications utilized in the laboratory and excellent project management, interpersonal, team building and communication skills.
