DESCRIPTION

Extract specifications, to design and develop or modify complex software in a modern object oriented environment with an emphasis on proteomics applications. Designing, coding, benchmark testing, debugging and documentation of programs. The position may require some conceptual and physical data modeling, implementation and minimal database administration. Primary responsibilities will include working with proteomics scientists to develop data flow pipelines, analysis applications and new visualization methods to support the Proteomics Shared Resource Facility. May have responsibility for the evaluation of new and existing software products. May also assist other programmers to effectively utilize the developed software, and as a member of a larger programming team. Competent to work on all phases of software systems programming applications, and as a member of a larger programming team. Can supervise lower level software engineers and programmers. Is familiar with distributed computing environment, modern computer software architectures and advanced software practices.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education: B.S or M.S. in Computer or Information Science or an equivalent field.

Years of prior experience: At least 3 years of practical programming and database development experience required. Experience in Medical Informatics or Molecular Biology desirable but not required.

Competent to work on all phases of software systems programming applications, from design to reduction to practice, and as a member of a larger programming team. Ability to support informatics research and analysis using computational methods and techniques. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and communicate clearly verbally and in writing. Is dedicated to superior customer service and satisfaction. Familiarity with Open database Compliant relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL. Familiarity with at least one of the following languages: C++, perl or Java.
