BACKGROUND

The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is a new centre of excellence in cancer research located in the MaRS Centre in the Discovery District in downtown Toronto. Launched in December 2005, OICR is an independent research institute funded by the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation. OICR will address significant challenges in cancer research with multi- disciplinary, multi-institutional teams. New discoveries to prevent, detect and treat cancer will be moved from the bench to practical applications in patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Manager, Sequencing Production Bioinformatics is responsible for designing and implementing Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for the OICR Genomics Platform. The incumbent will work closely with the Director of the Genomics Platform to gather use cases for the LIMS, perform the requirements analysis, develop an architectural plan for the system, specify and qualify software and hardware components of the system, implement and test the system, and build the support software needed to maintain the system across its lifecycle.

The Manager is also responsible for: generating documentation required to operate and maintain the system, including user manuals and troubleshooting guides; and supervising a small team of software developers who will execute the design and testing of the system.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor of Science in computer science, electrical engineering or bioinformatics;
• Minimum 3 (three) years of experience in a relevant environment;
• Biology background strongly preferred.

TERMS

Hours: 35 Hrs/week
Status: Permanent, Full Time

Salary: Commensurate with level of experience
