    Programmer Analyst II - # 101420

    BACKGROUND

    SAIC-Frederick, Inc., a subsidiary of SAIC, is the Operations and Technical Support Contractor for the National Cancer Institute at Frederick (NCI-Frederick) a federally funded research and development center. SAIC-Frederick, Inc. is one of four related NCI contracts on-site and serves as the infrastructure support for the entire center. The contract is the largest single research contract awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and it is the department's only Government-owned, contractor-operated facility contract.

    SAIC- Frederick and our Advanced Biomedical Computing Center have an exciting opportunity for a Programmer Analyst II in Gaithersburg, MD. This position will assist the development, installation and maintenance of a web-accessible centralized database to store microarray and laboratory information data. Integrate various new and existing array analysis tools with this database to provide single point access to tools and data together. Work with biologists in the lab to apply the database and tools. Write programs to normalize, visualize, and analyze microarray data, in particular exon-array data. Work closely with biologists to develop novel methods leading to publication of original research. Provide APIs for external database/tool access. Develop methods for visualization of exon-array data. Coordinate activities with other ABCC/NCI Projects.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Computer Science, Engineering or Bioinformatics or four (4) years related experience in lieu of degree. Master's degree preferred. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States.

    ln addition to education requirements, a minimum of two (2) years related experience in bioinformatics methods including microarray analysis and web/application development including connectivity to public databases. Proficient in programming in Perl, R, Matlab and C/C++ and web development languages such as PHP and Java, and microarray analysis experience including clustering and statistical techniques. Knowledge of web development and Java programming. Knowledge of public databases such as GO, PubMed, Uniprot and Pathways databases. This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.

    PREFERENCES

    Good working knowledge of DNA microarray and other genomic technologies and the analysis of high dimensional data.
