BACKGROUND
The WiCell™ Research Institute, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, is seeking an experienced individual to join its team. WiCell™ is a dynamic independent research institution with a primary research focus in human embryonic stem cells, a rapidly growing research field with tremendous potential to affect our understanding of basic human biology, improve drug development, and potentially improve human health.
The WiCell™ Research Institute has locations adjacent to the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus and University Research Park in Madison, Wisconsin. We offer a competitive salary and an excellent benefit package. Please view http://www.wicell.org for more information.RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Scientist-DNA Sequencing, serves as part of the Bioinformatics Group at WiCell™, and will be responsible for overseeing and directing DNA sequencing using the Illumina 1G DNA sequencer. This next generation sequencing technology opens up an exciting array of research possibilities focused on studying gene expression and transcriptional regulation in embryonic stem cells and their differentiated derivatives. While this position is primarily a service position, there are opportunities for independent research as well. General duties include but are not limited to: designing, implementing, and maintaining processes for all phases of Illumina sequencing including experimental design, cell culture, sample extraction and preparation, cluster generation, sequencing, and data transfer to bioinformatics; training and supervising others in these processes; and designing and implementing new methods for sample preparation and sequencing as they become available. Other duties include collaborating closely with scientists utilizing Solexa sequencing services at WiCell™, the University of Wisconsin and other institutes in the development of algorithms and methods for data analysis, visualization, and interpretation.REQUIREMENTS
A Ph.D. degree in biological sciences along with at least 2 years postdoctoral experience is required. Successful candidates will possess experience with sequencing technologies and strong instrumentation skills. Experience in molecular biology including RNA isolation, RNA amplification, and chromatin immunoprecipiation is desired as well as sterile cell culture techniques. Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills are required. Ideal candidates will demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as with others in a lab setting along with a familiarity with Bioinformatics.
