BACKGROUND

The Department of Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine at The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) has an opening for a skilled and motivated PhD candidate to join the project “The roles of microRNAs and transcription factors in gene regulation and tissue specific expression”. The project, which is funded by the Research Council of Norway’s prestigious Functional Genomics Programme (FUGE), will use bioinformatic and experimental approaches to elucidate how miRNAs and transcription factors coordinately regulate genes. The project will focus on three problems: cell-cycle regulation, cell-type specific gene expression in rat brains, and aberrant miRNA expression during virus infections.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful applicant has an MSc in computer science or bioinformatics, programming experience with multiple programming languages, excellent English skills, motivation to understand and solve new and exciting problems, and ambitions of doing top research in a multidisciplinary environment. Knowledge about basic molecular biology and genetics is a plus.

The position is open for three years and is available immediately.

COMPENSATION: NOK 325,600-388,000 ($59,200-$70,500) + benefits.
