Computercraft seeks a microbial genomes curator to join its team of highly-skilled and dedicated molecular biologists and microbiologists working onsite at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. Our scientists work with genomic experts at the NIH's National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) to create and enhance the suite of databases and tools available to researchers worldwide.

This is a technically challenging position requiring a Ph.D. in molecular biology, microbiology, or related field, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an aptitude for curetting microbial and organelle genomes. The work is being done on a genome-by-genome basis, and requires computational analysis using various bioinformatics and programming tools, as well as in-depth biological interpretation of the results.

Extensive research experience in molecular biology or microbiology is essential, as is experience using BLAST and other NCBI tools. Previous experience with large scale genome analysis/annotation a definite plus. User-level familiarity with UNIX operating systems is helpful, as is programming experience with Perl and C/C++. Teamwork interaction and excellent organizational skills are essential for this detail-oriented position, as is scientific problem-solving with a results-oriented focus.
