DESCRIPTION:
Bioinformatics Manager - Systems Medicine Inc. (Scottsdale, AZ)
Oversee the Bioinformatics programs for Systems Medicine including genome wide high-content screening to support both clinical and research programs. In collaboration with CTI Information Technology participate in the building of the bioinformatics computing infrastructure to support Systems Medicine initiatives. Balance management responsibilities with hands-on technical support for the development and maintenance of high-throughput automated bioinformatics pipelines, databases, and data mining systems to promote biological interpretations of complex genome wide array based experiments in combination with data integrated from a wide variety of internal and external public databases.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work in concert with collaboration teams with effective communication and project management to insure the timely completion of deliverables.
• Work closely with cancer biologists and bioinformaticists to gather requirements and propose software solutions to support project objectives.
• Build data pipelines to integrate and correlate data from a myriad of sources and data types to build a comprehensive decision support database.
• Contribute hands-on in the design of an intuitive web based information infrastructure, integrating open source tools, methods and commercial packages where appropriate.
• Facilitate analysis of high-throughput screening data; collaborating with scientists to develop automated data processing and analysis capability; statistical treatments, and data validation.
• Actively support the user base by participating in the analysis of data by implementing data queries; developing algorithms and visualization techniques. Insure successful analysis routines are deployed to the application infrastructure via user friendly options .
• Coordinate evaluation and selection of 3rd party software products, specifying required customization for integration tasks, and overseeing the technical performance of contractors.
• Oversee and participate fully in the SDLC by insuring frequent code check-in, tracking issues, maintaining specifications and end-user documentation.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum requirement is a PhD in Chemistry, Biology, or Computer Science with strong scientific background or equivalent
• 3+ years (5 years is preferred) experience in the use of laboratory automation and scientific systems.
• At least 2+ years experience in bioinformatics (4+ preferred)
• 3 years or more hands on experience in array based gene expression and related experimental data analysis
• Experience in applying statistics and quality control measures to experimental data
• Minimum of 5 years programming experience in two or more of the following languages: C, C++, VB, Perl, Python, or JAVA in a production environment
• Familiarity with public databases such as Entrez Gene, and the Gene Ontology Database considered a must.
• Familiarity with XML and relational database systems (Oracle, MySQL) is required.
• Familiarity with Unix/Linux scripting required.
• Familiarity with handling array based data from RNAi , and CGH experiments considered a plus.
• Strong interpersonal, technical leadership and mentoring skills
• Good communication skills, resourcefulness, and problem solving skills.
• Strong knowledge of systems design concepts and software engineering in a laboratory environment.
• Project management skills.
