BACKGROUND
A 24 month fixed term contract is open for a bioinformatician to participate to the development of COMPARE/MyoBase (http://compare.ibdml.univ-mrs.fr). This position is supported by MYORES (http://www.myores.org) an European Network of Excellence, funded by the EU under the sixth framework program.
The aim of COMPARE/MyoBase is to create a database containing information relevant to muscle biology, which includes:- information on gene structure, genome annotation, expression (expression patterns in various organisms, microarray data) and regulation (promoter sequences, signaling pathways) of genes involved in muscle development in different model organisms (e.g. Drosophila, C. elegans, ascidian, Zebrafish, chick, mouse and human)
- proteomics and protein structure of muscle components from animals and humans,
- a repertoire of gene mutations involved in muscular diseases, both in animals and humans. (description and classification of diseases, biopsy collections)
DESCRIPTION
The bioinformatician will be integrated in the laboratory of Prof. Christophe Marcelle (http://www.ibdml.univ-mrs.fr/equipes/equipe_gb.php?id=23) located on a multidisciplinary University campus encompassing a number of world class research groups.
He/she will work together with a team of two bioinformaticians.
He/she will participate to the integration of data related to muscular diseases, and to the development of new bioinformatics tools for research.
He/she should be autonomous and have a strong team spirit.REQUIREMENTS
Master, Engineer or PhD in Bioinformatics.
Scripting language: PHP, Perl and BioPerl.
Expertise in Databases development and implementation is essential.
Strong background in Bioinformatics softwares and statistics will be a plus.
Experience working in UNIX development environment is desirable.
NOTE:
The position is supported for 24 months and will start as soon as possible.
