BACKGROUND:We develop next generation tools for large-scale analysis of genetic variation and function, creating the way for tomorrow’s medicine. Our goal is to reduce the cost of human gene sequencing to a few thousand dollars per genome.
RESPONSIBILITIES:You will create software to facilitate new applications of Illumina's next-generation DNA sequencing technology. Duties will include working with others to prototype algorithms to solve problems in DNA sequence analysis, in particular the detection of structural variants in DNA sequences; in addition, the translation of prototype algorithms into robust and high-performance software for delivery to customers as part of our data analysis software will fall with your remit.
REQUIREMENTS:Education and Experience:- Strong scientific programming skills with evidence of agility in algorithm development
- Excellent knowledge of C and/or C++
- Strong knowledge of Perl and/or Python
- At least degree qualified, MSc or PhD preferred
- Post-qualification work experience in bioinformatics is an advantage, particularly in the area of DNA sequence analysis
- Experience working in a clustered Linux environment is an advantage
