    The Bioinformatics Specialist will provide computer system administration for the Center of Bioinformatics; provide bioinformatics software development, installation and maintenance; development of bioinformatics databases and web interfaces; guidance and consultation in technical matters such as network integration and hardware selection. The individual will be assigned to the Center for Bioinformatics, which provides university-wide bioinformatics and computational support. Major responsibilities include computer system administration on multiple platforms such as Linux/Unix, Windows, and MacOS with a major emphasis on Linus. The desired candidate will be able to build and manage local bioinformatics databases and web interfaces and be able to develop and maintain bioinformatics tools to support research in areas such as functional genomics, gene discovery, and biomedical applications. The candidate will interact frequently with faculty, staff and students to provide technical consultation for solving hardware and software problems.

    A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with emphasis or major in computational science, computer science, information systems or related field is required. A Master’s degree is preferred. Development skills in Perl/Bioperl, Python, and/or C/C++, XML and SQL are essential.
