DESCRIPTION

A post-doctoral position is available in the Laboratory of Integrative Bioinformatics and Genomics at the Institut de Génétique et de Biologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire (IGBMC) (Illkirch-Strasbourg, France) in the context of a project financed by the French Myopathy Association (AFM).

The aim of the project is to identify the molecular transcriptional mechanisms of myogenic progression in vivo, in collaboration with the team of Frederic Relaix in Paris. Transcriptomal analyses at different time-points (throughout development, in postnatal and regenerating muscles) will be performed and will provide us with the complete set of genes involved in the myogenic lineage. In parallel, the team in Strasbourg will characterize the total set of proteins involved directly or indirectly in the transcriptional processes in mouse. This will require an in depth sequence, structural, evolutionary (SSE) and functional analysis of the mouse proteome, including homology identification, multiple sequence alignment, structural and functional subfamily classification, orthology/paralogy analysis and phylogenetic reconstruction.
The construction of the transcriptional networks will exploit both the transcriptomic profiling data and the functional associations provided by the SSE analysis. Potential interaction networks will be built and functional modules within this network will be identified, using various clustering techniques. We will initially focus our attention on those functional modules containing at least one of the transcription factors known to play important roles in the myogenic lineage. The analysis will then be extended to other local modules in the network, associated with at least one of the highly expressed genes identified in the transcriptomal analyses.
The post-doctoral fellow will perform the in silico identification of the total set of mouse proteins involved directly or indirectly in the transcriptional processes and will construct the relation database for storage and querying of results. He will also be responsible for the development of methods to construct the transcriptional networks from the expression data and phylogenetic similarity scores.

REQUIREMENTS

PhD in biology/bioinformatics fields. Experience of database management, basic bioinformatics tools for sequence analysis, data integration, transcriptional network analysis would be an advantage. French speaking is NOT a requirement. The position is supported for 18 months and will start as soon as possible.
