The Functional Genomic Unit (FGU) is a research group that carries out basic and clinical research on breast cancer genetics. We use cutting-edge technologies, such that gene expression profiling and comparative genomic hybridization, in order to bring new insights in breast cancer biology and to develop new tools for clinical practice. We have strong collaborations with the Machine Learning Group, headed by Pr. Gianluca Bontempi in the Computer Science Department of ULB, and the NCCR Molecular Oncology Bioinformatics Group of the Institut Suisse de Recherche Experimentale sur le Cancer, headed by Pr. Mauro Delorenzi.

    REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for the postdoctoral position should have a recent PhD on a subject related to bioinformatics, statistical machine learning or (bio)statistics. In particular, any research experience on bioinformatics, machine learning, and statistical analysis will be an asset.

Candidates applying for PhD positions are expected to attach their transcripts and a letter of recommendation from your MSc supervisor or another relevant person.

Applicants are expected to have strong programming skills (especially on unix-based systems), the ability to work independently, the ability to analyze real biological datasets (e.g. microarray data), strong interpersonal skills, good writing and oral communication.

LOCALE: Functional Genomic Unit, Institut Jules Bordet, Brussels, Belgium

Upon offer of a position in FGU, the candidates who are non-EU citizens are required to obtain an appropriate long-term Schengen visa; further information is available from their nearest Belgian embassy.
