    BACKGROUND

    The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute uses large-scale sequencing,
    informatics and analysis of genetic variation to understand gene
    function in health and disease and to generate resources of lasting
    value.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Production Software team at the Sanger Institute aims
    to produce high quality informatics tools in support of the
    Institute's high profile sequencing projects.

    REQUIREMENTS

    A position is available for an experienced software
    developer to work along side a talented team in building web
    based tools for use in our next generation sequencing
    analysis pipelines. The post involves working closely with
    laboratory teams on high-level system and database design,
    as well as hands-on development.

    PREFERENCES

    The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years experience in
    the full life-cycle of extremely high quality, scalable web
    applications, preferably in a scientific field. A keen eye for
    detail will be augmented with an excellent working
    knowledge of object-oriented design, test driven
    development and agile database development.
    A strong background in Perl, Java, HTML and relational
    databases is essential with knowledge of Rails, Oracle,
    MySQL, Subversion, open source development and
    refactoring to patterns being a definite advantage.
    Excellent time management and communication skills are
    required, as is a keen interest in emerging technology.
