Brief description: Intermediate software developer for a bioinformatics software development project in the Pavlidis research group within the UBC Bioinformatics Centre.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent education or experience. Must have excellent spoken and written English communication skills and the ability to produce high-quality code based on requirements worked out with other team members. At least one year of experience developing web-based user interfaces (jsp, servlets, javascript, html, css) as well as experience with CVS and Eclipse ( or equivalent technologies). Some knowledge of Ajax, IOC containers (Spring), OR mapping tools (Hibernate) or the Agile development paradigm is highly desirable. Database management experience (MySQL) and knowledge of biological concepts is a valuable asset.
Responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain software for bioinformatics applications, using modern software frameworks and development techniques including model-driven development and test-driven development, issue tracking, and version control. Code will be developed according to team-established quality standards.
- Develop tests for all software by creating test data/inputs and testing code.
- Implementation responsibilities will involve multiple aspects of the system including web client interfaces, database loading, middleware services and maintaining the existing code base.
