BACKGROUND: The Sorghum Translational Genomics Program at KSU requires a bioinformatician for analysis of large amounts of sequence data from a diverse panel of sorghum lines. Details of the project may be found at http://coding.plantpath.ksu.edu/stgp/.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Assemble megabase quantities of short sequence reads against the sorghum genome sequence. Identify SNPs. Lead comparative genomic studies and prepare, or assist in preparing, publications. Carry out other bioinformatics analyses including genotyping and association studies.
REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in a relevant biological or analytical science. (M.S. will be considered, with suitable experience). Experience in one or more programming languages including Perl, bioinformatics training (sequence manipulation, microarrays, genomics, DNA markers); quantitative and statistical skills, good oral and written communication skills.
PREFERENCES: Training in genetics, especially population genetics. Familiarity with databases and SQL will be highly regarded.
TERMS: Position will extend up to three years. Available April 1, 2008.
LOCALE: Kansas State University, Department of Plant Pathology, Manhattan, Kansas.
COMPENSATION: Salary commensurate with qualifications, standard benefits.
