    Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a motivated computational biologist to work in its bioinformatics shared resource (BSR).

    BACKGROUND

    Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is a world-renowned research and educational institution with programs in cancer, neuroscience, plant biology, genomics and bioinformatics. The Laboratory is recognized internationally for its excellence in research and educational activities. Candidates will have opportunities to interact with and participate in advanced research in molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, and computational biology, and will have access to robust information technology resources as well as a high-performance computing cluster.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to CSHL investigators on bioinformatics-related concepts, applications, and tools. He/she will work closely with both bioinformatician in BSR and research scientists in the analysis of complex data sets produced from research groups, including sequence analysis, motif discovery, etc. This position also has duties to instruct the biologists to use some common bioinformatics tools.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Required qualifications include an M.S. degree or equivalent in bioinformatics or biology with demonstrable computational skills or an M.S. degree or equivalent in computer science with a strong interest in biology. Must be able to work on UNIX/LINUX environment. Valuable prior experience include web-based bioinformatics tools, public-domain biological databases and software tools for sequence, domain and microarray analysis; and experience with one or more of the following languages: C, C++, PERL, Python, S+, R, Java, SQL. Knowledge and experience in system administration and web-page development are highly desired.
