DESCRIPTION
The Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (http://www.jhsph.edu/mmi) has an opening for a post doctoral fellow in the Pineda Biocomputing Group.
The research will focus on genome-wide computational discovery and experimental characterization of non-coding regulatory RNA (ncRNA) in Plasmodium falciparum. The research involves collaborative software development of a novel ab initio RNA-genefinder as well as annotation and validation of detected ncRNA gene candidates. Experimental validation and characterization is performed in collaboration with the JHSPH Malaria Research Instituate's microarray core, as well as the Kumar lab and other collaborating labs.
REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must possess solid data-analysis, biostatistics or machine learning skills as well as solid scientific software development skills as demonstrated by a relevant PhD dissertation or publication(s). A PhD in biology, or a physical/computational science (with knowledge of molecular biology) is required. Experience with annotation tools, e.g. BLAST, and genomic databases, e.g. Genbank, PlasmoDB, etc. Particularly useful software development skills include C, Perl, R or S+. Experience with version control, e.g. Subversion is desirable. Experience administering Linux/Unix, MacOS X or Windows platforms is also desirable. Bench skills, particularly with micro arrays or RNA are a plus.
