    BACKGROUND

The South African Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC; http://www.chpc.ac.za) has awarded a National Flagship project to the University of Cape Town to model the molecular evolution of HIV.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

The project involves the development and application of new statistical models of the interaction between HIV and host immune responses and antiretroviral drugs. These models will be applied to HIV-1 sequence data from South Africa and from international collaborators.

    REQUIREMENTS

We are seeking post-doctoral researchers to fill vacant positions in the project. Successful applicants will have a background (PhD) in bioinformatics, computer science, mathematics or statistics; however, applicants with a background in other subjects, such as biology (particularly virology, phylogenetics or population genetics), physics or chemistry, will also be considered, provided they have excellent scientific computing skills.

    PREFERENCES

Experience of working with high-performance computing facilities would be an advantage.

    LOCALE: University of Cape Town.

    HOW TO APPLY

To apply please send a complete academic CV, together with a covering letter to Cathal Seoighe (Cathal.Seoighe[at]uct.ac.za). Alternatively, please get in touch by e-mail or phone (+27 21 406 6837) to request more information about the project.
