BACKGROUND

A 3 year post is available to work with Dr David Martin in supporting the determination of the genome sequence of potato chromosome IV in collaboration with partners at the Scottish Crop Research Institute. The position is based at the University of Dundee but interaction with partners in London and international collaborators in the Potato Genome Sequencing Consortium is to be expected. Dundee is a thriving city with a low cost of living, high standard of living and easy access to the Scottish Highlands and central belt.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This project will involve managing the bioinformatics requirements for the sequencing workflow, preliminary genome annotation, and subsequent comparison with the closely related tomato genome

REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of sequence analysis methods. Technically they will be a strong programmer and have good data management skills, demonstrated by experience with relational databases. Experience in web interface development will be an advantage. The Computational Biology group has strengths in Java, Perl and Python programming, and makes extensive use of Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL databases.
