    BACKGROUND

    A Research Associate / Systems Biologist is required at the Centre of Excellence in Computational Systems Biology at The University of Western Australia. The successful applicant will be a recent PhD graduate in a computational or biological field and ideally will have significant postdoctoral experience in systems biology, bioinformatics or computational biology.

    Researchers at the Centre of Excellence in Computational Systems Biology have close collaborative links with the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology, located in the same building, which houses advanced facilities for the acquisition of transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic data. In addition, the research group has forged high-speed data links to access the computing facilities of the Western Australian Supercomputing Program. This unique multi-disciplinary working environment will enable the successful applicant to participate in exciting existing projects that integrate and analyse ‘omics data generated by collaborating research groups. The successful applicant will also be encouraged to develop individual systems biology projects of interest.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Contribute to internationally competitive research projects using systems approaches to study plant energy biology.
    • Promote the research program of the Centre via publication of research papers and presentations at international conferences.
    • Supervise student projects and provide high-level research expertise to colleagues.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • A PhD in mathematics, computer science, bioinformatics or biology.
    • A good knowledge and understanding of the statistical approaches used to analyse microarray, proteomics and/or metabolomics data.
    • A demonstrated ability to work productively in a team environment.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly as applied to the preparation of scientific papers, presentations and reports.

    PREFERENCES

    • Postdoctoral research experience in bioinformatics or systems biology.
    • A good knowledge and understanding of mathematical approaches to the understanding of network topologies.
    • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.

    Our research group and collaborators are housed within the picturesque grounds of The University of Western Australia in Perth: a modern, dynamic city with a pleasant Mediterranean climate and ample opportunities for outdoor and cultural activities.

    TERMS

    Two year appointment, with the possibility for renewal.

    COMPENSATION

    $50,372 - $68,358 (Australian) p.a. - minimum starting salary for appointee with PhD will be $63,682.
